Sveiki!
As the first Ambassador of Ireland resident in Lithuania, it was my great honour and pleasure to establish our Embassy in Vilnius in September, 2005. Since then, our Chancery office was opened in the historic building of Gedimino 1 in May 2006 (a short history of Gedimino 1 can be found in this section). I was also pleased to be appointed Ambassador of Ireland to Belarus (non-resident) in July 2009.
Alas, I have come, all too quickly, it feels to me, to the end of my posting to Lithuania and to Belarus.
As a student of history, I have learnt a lot about the dramatic and complex history of this part of Europe. It has been a fascinating and rewarding experience. As an Ambassador, it has also been my privilege to share in the challenges and opportunities facing contemporary Lithuanian society. I believe that Lithuania – and its neighbours – may face into the future with confidence, working together to secure an era of prosperity for all.
I came to Lithuania as an Ambassador of Ireland; I leave as an ambassador of Lithuania.
Aš myliu Lietuvą!
Donal Denham
Former Ambassador of Ireland to Lithuania & Belarus
